Hi, welcome to the website of the Southern Young Tigers Dragon Horse. Our Lion Dance Team started in January 2005 and although we're moderately new, we've had the great opportunity to perform at many events including Atrium Hotel(Taiwanese New Year), Microsoft Corp(Laguna Nigel Ritz Carlton), SF & Alhambra New Years Parade, Kaiser Hospital, Long Beach Dragon Boat Competition, on Campus events, and Restaurants. The style is based from Loong Mah San Francisco.

Loong Mah Style is different for there is a point to make lion dance performed as it should be, with the ability to bring the paper-mache costume to life, and express the spirit of lion dance.

We're proud to say that we're the newest addition to the expanding Loong Mah family. Our collegiate sister team is known as UCLA ACA Lion Dance, who have been established for awhile now with the help of Bobby Chin and Tiffany Mah.

If you're interested or have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're a multicultural team and accept anyone with potential.

History of Lion Dance:

Lion dance is one of China's oldest surviving arts, which is currently about 2000 years old. It had been practiced by monks to bless their temples, martial arts clubs to protect their investments, Triads to protect the people of China, and now the art has been spread across the world and is practiced in nearly every country. In fact, Mexico has one of the most amazing teams in the world. The art has been passed through many cultures, that including, but not limited to, Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Laos, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, American, and more!

Note: Lion dance is performed generally during New Years Parades, Weddings, and Store Openings. The equipment used are paper-mache heads braced with bamboo, gongs, cymbals, and drums, to scare away evil spirits.
